This sale is for a rare early 19th century John W Ridgway English blue and white earthenware plate in the sought after Portland Basket pattern. I am in the process of downsizing after many years of collecting antiques and looking to pass some of these nice pieces on to the community. This is an early Ridgway piece of earthenware/opaque china dating between 1814 and 1830. It is a transfer ware plate with the breathtaking Portland Basket pattern, (see pics). It depicts a marquis of a \"tastefully arranged\" basket of country flowers surrounded by a lush floral and butterfly segmented border. The rim is lobed with a staggered pattern of rosettes in relief. This fine plate measures 10 3/8\" in diameter. It is marked on the back: Portland Basket, opaque china JWR. It has seen a very old resto. to the foot on the back and has a tight hairline, (both photoed). I wish I\'d look this good at between 188 and 204 years old!!!
