Very fine patinated bronze sculpture, depicting a French boy playing the violin, titled LULLI on the base.

LULLI is wearing an apron and is standing atop an upturned pot with a cabbage behind.

The sculpture was made after the original by the 19th c. original by the French artist Gaudez.

The statue is made of solid bronze, and is very well crafted, with hand-hammered accents throughout. It it rather heavy, and weighs 35 lbs.

This appears to be an early piece, with bronze showing heavy verdigris oxidation, please preview all pictures for more details. Wonderful original patina .Slight surface imperfections as expected from a hand-tooled piece.

Adrien-Etienne Gaudez was born in Lyon, France, on 2 February 1845. He was a pupil of Francois Jouffroy at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1862. He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1864.

Gaudez worked almost exclusively in bronze and he produced a wide array of sculptures, ranging from genre subjects to military and patriotic themes.

His earlier work was mostly of a classical nature but in the latter part of his career he produced some sculpture that can be categorized as art nouveau.

In 1870 Gaudez was a prisoner of war during the Franco-Prussian War.
