- This beautiful vintage/estate early 1900\'s Mah Jong set comes boxed in an intricately carved wooden case with a hidden front door that opens up to reveal 5 drawers. The bottom drawer has a spring load mechanism that I believe also works to help open the front door. The front door slides into the case under the bottom drawer. There is no carving on the bottom, but it does show the pretty dovetail construction.
The box measures approximately: 7-1/2\" high (Not counting the 1-3/4\" handle), 8\" wide and 7-3/4\" deep.
Tiles: There are 148 tiles total (8 of which are blank). The tiles measure approximately 1-1/4\" long, 3/4\" wide and 1/2\" thick. The tiles are dovetailed together with plain bamboo backs and there is some space from age shrinkage, wear from use, etc, we are not inspecting every tile and they are as is as found.
Also Included: A little rectangle box (1-3/8\" long) with a sliding cover and 4 tiny dice inside, a round container with a lid and 4 disks inside, (8) sticks with 5 red spots on each end, (33) sticks with 10 black spots on each end, (37) sticks with 1 red spot on each end and (38-1/2 sticks with 2 black spots on each end - The 1/2 one has the tip with the dots broken off). Most of the sticks have minor chips/dings to the edges but none except the one black 2-spot is actually broken.
The case has minor scuffs and scratches from use as well as a couple chips to the lid engraving, please see photos. A beautiful set!
