1981 Plate #139 Cape Cod Writers\' Conference in Teal

The design is based on the the two-room cottage that is featured in Henry\'s Beston book \"The Outermost House: A Year of Life on the Great Beach of Cape Cod.\" The house was located in Eastham, Massachusetts about two miles south of the Nauset Coast Guard Station.

This beautiful Pairpoint Cup Plate was designed by Louis Vuilleumier and engraved by Alvin A White. The plate is from the Cape Cod Writers\' Conference.

This plate, combined with the book, would make a unique gift for someone with a Cape Cod connection.

Even though the plate has a first quality sticker, I can see a crack at around 10:00. Please look closely using zoom. The backlit pictures show the flaw best.

Boxes are included for packing protection only. All boxes are stained, and have handwriting or labels.

Please review photos for condition. I take some photos withback-lightingso you can see very fine details. The backlit photos generally appear a little different than the actual color, but they really allow you to verify the plate\'s condition. Taking accurate photos of glass is a skill I have not perfected; I am happy to take additional photos for you.

Hand production will inevitably produce irregularities. Thickness and colors measured by the human eye will never be exact from plate to plate, and no plate will be totally flawless. The glass making process may introduce bubbles or shear marks. Some plates may have an obvious chip or flake.

About Pairpoint Cup Plates

The Pairpoint Glass Co, of Sagamore, Massachusets, which is on Cape Cod, is the oldest glass making company in the USA.Pairpoint iswell-known and recognized for manufacturing cup plates. The first glass cup plates were made in Sandwich, MA, in the 1820\'s. Cup Plates were used between 1826 and 1850 when tea cups did not have handles. Hot tea was poured into the saucers to cool, while the cup was placed on a small plate to prevent damage to fine linens or polished tables. In 1974, Pairpoint began producing commissioned pieces that rejuvenated the cup plate market creating collectors all over the world. I often describe Pairpoint cup plates as the \"beany babies\" of the 70\'s because collectors traveled across the country to buy the latest, limitededitions. Designed and pressed in oftenlimited numbers, these unique collectibles became a favorite among churches, institutions, and other private organizations who commissioned specific designs over the years.

About me as a Seller

I am not a collector. My mother lived on Cape Cod and was a very active member of the Pairpoint Cup Plate Collectors of America (PCPCA). She enjoyed thousands of these little plates, and had most, if not all, of the limited editions. About a dozen years ago, I sold quite a few plates for my mother, who was just beginning her Alzheimer\'s journey. Selling the plates on helped me re-engaged her with her passion for these enchanting little plates. Each plate has a story, and I admit I often spend hours researching a plate\'s history. As years passed, we picked out special plates to give as gifts. Gifts for aides, friends, and strangers; my mom loved sharing her treasures. Now, it\'s time to pass these little treasures on to new homes. I hope these little plates bring a little joy into your life.
