Japan, late 1800’s. Edo Meiji Satsuma Kyoto Brocade HUGE Censer Koro Incense Lion Gold Victoriana. Set on three cabriolet animal form legs, the tripod censer with globular body rising to a waisted neck and straight flat rim, doubled stirrup style handles on the shoulders and square domed cover surmounted by a large Buddhistic lion (Chinese dog - Karashishi) with a ribbon ball. The side with large panels of Chinese dignitaries and attendants, reverse with a Japanese nobleman conversing with a confucian scholar, surrounded by brocade patterns extending to the cover, gilt decoration throughout. Base and cover marked with a code - LEFT SIX in kanji. Wear and rubbing to gilding, crackling of the glaze. Areas with old Scotch tape (removable). Interior of cover with restoration.
