This jar is not sealed like an urn, which is normally very heavy and screws shut. Jar lid does not screw shut on this canopic jar. If you put kitty remains in it, best to place in a plastic bag first.

Among the ancient Egyptians, canopic jars were covered funerary vases, intended to keep the viscera of a mummy, and were commonly made of limestone, pottery, wood, or bronze. All the viscera were not kept in a single canopic jar, but rather each organ in its own.

Goddess Bast/Bastet

Originally a lion goddess, after 1000 B.C. as her cult developed, she became more associated with the cat and was considered to be the counterpart of the lion goddess Sekhmet. Cats could be observed skillfully hunting and catching snakes, which had special relevance for the Egyptians since the snake was the symbol of Apophis, the demonic enemy of the sun god Ra.

So cats became animals sacred to the solar deity. Bastet was especially worshipped at her temple at Bubastis (\"the house of Bastet\").

The celebrating of her festivals were renowned for being the most lavish of all the gods of Egypt. Greeks associated her with the Goddess Artemis. Patroness of all things feminine, of witchcraft and the Divine Feminine, at the practical level Bast is a supreme orderer and organizer.

**Cold Cast Bronze is usually foundry-cast and produced in a pressure tank used to get bubbles out of the mold and the finished sculpture. These products are essentially resin combined with bronze powder. The patina for the cold-cast bronze is built into the material used for casting, but there is a lot of hand-buffing, a process done by the artisan\'s hand. Finished pieces of both products are then often sealed with clear polyurethane to protect the finish. They are heavy, detailed, and a little shinier than 100% metals, and they actually look better than solid bronze. We think this new material is a fantastic compromise that keeps the beauty, substantial weight and quality, and detail of bronze while keeping replicas affordable. Because metals on the world market have nearly tripled in cost in the past few years, 100% metal statues of the same size would be several times the cost of our cold cast bronze statues.
