Striking modernist painting with delicate linear configurations. Shapes and planes are fragmented into simplified abstracted angular forms.
Vertical architectonic structures are merged with flowing veiling sweeps of arching line and color. Pale slate grey to frosted pale lemon yellow is highlighted with areas of blue-grey and aqua, against a darkened highly modulated ground.
Paint is applied with both brush and palette knife, giving this work a very visceral surface.

BIOGRAPHY:Eleanor Arnold Clark was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She began her career as a painter of the American Scene, focusing upon rural landscapes and portraits of friends and family. However, Clark did not stick as tenaciously to the realist idiom after 1940. After studying for a year (1935-36) at the Art Students\' League in New York under the celebrated abstract painter, Hans Hofmann, Clark began to move quite sharply towards geometric abstraction and eventually adopted an Abstract Expressionist idiom.
