This is a listing for an early,circa 40\'s, Navajo silver and turquoise ring. It\'s unstamped, as expected of an older piece and tested as sterling. The turquoise is a natural high quality stone from the Bisbee mine in Arizona and both the silver and the stone are in excellent vintagecondition.
The stone is large, in a free form shape that measures one inch in length and half an inch at it\'s widest point. The face of the ring measures 1.5 inches in length and just shy of one inch in width, so it\'s a very nice sized stone and fairly bold piece. It\'s a size 9 and weighs a sturdy and comfortable 9 grams. The band is half round wire with a split shank that maintains a nice balance on the finger. The mounting and shape of the stone is an elongated tear drop that truly streamlines and flatters the finger.
The ring is a great example of earlier Navajo silver work with very simple embellishments and I would estimate it\'s age to be from the 40\'s and possibly earlier.. The stone has a tight smooth bezel surrounded by a twisted rope of silver. Simple chisel marks accent the base of the mounting and an elegant hand pounded liquid silver drop flanked by stamped sunbursts accents the top and sides of the ring. Very heavy original patina can be seen in the recessed areas that naturally enhance the beauty of the wonderful stone. I\'ve shown it in natural and flash light, so you can appreciate the depth of the turquoise. The stone is a rich Bisbee blue framed in a dark shaded matrix. It\'s a gem grade stone that is extremely hard with a superb polish and absolutely no open or crumbling matrix.
This is a classic example of a finely made Navajo ring that showcases a wonderful turquoise stone. Thank you for looking.
