RARE ENGLISH GEORGE III STERLING SILVER BATS WING COFFEE POT & LION STAND; WEIGHS 46 OUNCES; FAMILY CREST; EXCELLENT

This is a museum worthy English George III sterling silver coffee pot bats wing fluted on lion foot stand.

Bearing family crest. An armored leg with bent knee, cut at the hip.

The coffee pot from Thomas Robins in 1817. The stand, made specifically for this pot, from Emes and Barnard for following year.

Grimwade writes that Robins was known for dinner plate of good quality, chiefly entree dishes, page 643.

Emes & Barnard of course one of the most important of the period, with extensive royal connections.

The coffee in stout baluster form. Centre crest.

Elegant bat\'s wing fluting to main body and centre cover.

Gadroon overflow rim.

The cover with raised pomegranate finial, atop ripping leaf.

Feathered acanthus and oval drop spout.

Carved ebony handle. Florette panel above and trefoil leaf terminal below.

The matching stand with crest. Retains its original hallmarked and crested burner and cover.

Boldly fashioned rolling vine and florette cap acanthus centre lion paw and claw feet.

George III crested coffee pot on stand 12 inches tall.

Exceptionally thick, heavy guage sterling silver weighs 46 1/2 (standard) ounces.

Extensively hallmarked as shown. The kettle date mark 1817 the stand 1818. These were made for one another from different London shops who often collaborated.

In excellent condition. Rich sterling patina throughout. Cover well fit. The handle retain rich mellow surface. Also retains its original hallmarked burner, fine state. Few tiny scuffs, barely noted.
