This beautiful rare exotic Nazareno Purple Heart bowl is 4\" diameter and 1.5\" high. I purchased it at an estate sale. It still has it\'s original price tag on it for $800. Purpleheart is also known as Amaranth, Violetwood, and Nazareno. The tree is found in Central America (primarily Costa Rica), and averages 120 to 150 feet in height with diameters of two to four feet. One of the most distinctive woods in the world, Purpleheart is prized for its unusual deep purple color. When freshly cut, this dense, strong hardwood is light brown. The surface quickly turns an astonishing bright purple. With prolonged exposure, the color gradually changes to a chocolate-purple. This beautiful wood is straight to wavy grained, fine and uniformly textured. It is also fairly smooth with a medium to high luster. Purpleheart turns smoothly, is easy to glue, takes finishes well, and is highly durable. Purpleheart reaches the world market only in small quantities, which makes it increasingly rare. It is used in fine inlay work, turnery, fine furniture and cabinetry, parquet flooring, decorative and figured veneer, and specialty items such as pens, handles, and carving.
