Ethiopian Shield - Mega-Fauna Hide - Likely 19th Century - Very Good Condition:
$279.00

A war shield that I collected in the Mercato, Africa\'s largest open air market, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1964. Likely it is the kind of shield that was carried by the tribal warriors that Sir Richard Frances Burton encountered during his epic 1854 solo expedition from the Red Sea and Somalia to Harar, Abysinnia (now Ethiopia). The shield is not large, about 16\" in diameter, with the rise from the base to the top being about 5\" and with the handle protruding about 2\" to the back. The condition is quite good.
