I have been collecting Photo Gravures since 1960. now at age seventy two it is time to let them go..

Mostof my Gravure collection is from photographs made before 1940. The gravures were printed from photographs, ornegativessupplied by the photographer and added as bonus prints in hardback photography books in 1941 or 1942. I disbound a lot of these books to get my photogravures..

All ofmy photogravures are drymounted onto9x12 inch off white matboards, using an old Seal press made in 1946.

Drymounting is one of the best ways to protect photographs. The drymount tissue between the gravure and the board forms a barrier that stops chemicals from entering the paper from the back. (Edward Weston drymounted his photographs)

After he died his son, and Berenice Abbott went through his negatives and prints, with Abbott buying a lot of them and bringing the collection to the USA.
