Offered here is an excellent Civil War US Model 1850 Staff and Field Officer\'s sword and scabbard. It has a 29 1/4\" spear point blade with full-length median fuller. 35 1/2\" overall on this French import, common in both USA and CSA armies at the time. Brass guard with wire-wrapped shagreen grip. Steel scabbard with brass fittings. Blade etched with \"U.S.\", American eagle, and floral themes. Spine markings in French indicate Klingenthal-Coulaux manufacture which (part of Germany today, but part of France then). Good condition with cleaned blade, though etchings are still very visible. There is some discoloration and pitting at the blade\'s tip. Guard has a bright mustard patina with heavy wear on shagreen and slightly loose wire. Scabbard has a gunmetal gray patina with the brass taking on a dull luster.
