This sale is for an exquisite antique 1860s delicate, shimmering iridescent silk taffeta ruffle fragment salvaged from a Civil War era garment. It is in a shade of olivegreen with the most heavenly! soft, dainty cut silk velvet floral motifs. The center floralappliquésof a tiny flower/leaf pattern with the loveliest floral garland swag below, are so life-like and highly detailed. I am inclined to believe that this is most likely French in origin due to its utmost quality. I can only say that it is exceptional. This is very, very rare to come by and it is not often seen. The last time I even saw or purchased this type of velvet was two years ago or more and it was a larger panel from an 1860s ballgown. Thisparticular pattern is unique from others that I have collected in which it has a very small pattern, which is perfect for doll clothing on a smaller scale. It is also the first time that I have seen this color;the velvet is in rich shades of green and brown/rust. Depending on how the fabric is turned, the velvet\'s nap changes (Photos). The last two photos show the outline of the velvet from the right side and there are lush silk threads here and there, which I cannot explain how this was done The entire fragment is pure silk;there are no other fibers....the velvet pattern is slightly raisedfrom the ground surface and one has to have it in hand to appreciate its beauty and feel its wonderful texture..... It is being sold \"AS IS\". There is shattering throughout the taffeta....please wait until Saturday for detailed photos. Although it is damaged, it is still useable for one\'s project in which authenticity is desired. I broke down and am selling a small fragment from my own collection of this type of velvet.
