Exquisite pair of rare, original Georgian brass door knobs 1790.2 pairs available:
$119.50

These exquisite Georgian door knobs have been removed from the doors of a country house (rectory) built in 1790.During alterations in the 1970s, the doors were removed and stored down in the cellars. These cellars are now being cleared. The knobs were covered in layers of paint which have been stripped, revealing the beautiful embossed design in the brass which I believe to be Acanthus leaves, on the top and around the sides.
They are made from solid brass, not a brass shell, so they are not heavily dented or misshapen.
I have not over-polished the brass to keep the authentic appearance, but they will polish up further if so desired. It was clear when removing the knobs from the doors, that they have never been removed during the many times the doors have been painted. They are surprisingly small for the size of the doors, measuring only 2\" in diameter ( the doors are over 79\" x39\" and are available on another listing ).
There is one original backplate with each pair of knobs, and the original rod / spindle. Unfortunately, the original grub screws had to be drilled out to remove the knobs. The price is for one pair of these extremely rare and beautiful knobs, but two pairs are available. They have proved difficult to photograph, so I feel the photos do not do them justice. The areas of shade and reflection make the knobs appear more bumped than they actuaaly are.
