From a late 1800\'s mansion, an outrageous entryway. The owner of the mansion traveled to Italy during the late 1920\'s, went to a world exposition purchasing architectural pieces from two rooms which he shipped home. This doorway graced the billiard room and is shown as found. Now after salvaging, it is in large sections for you to reassemble, as shown in the photo. Stairs are not included. Features an oak linen fold door with superb hardware on the inside as shown. Door measures 70\" high x 30 wide x 1-3/4\" deep. Appears larger as the surround is so grand.
An ornate header with casing, columns and capitols surrounding the oak linen fold door. Total height is 8\'5\" x width is 7\'3\" x 20\" deep.
Header has hand painted mottled background, hand carved horizontal gold leaves (almost like egg and dart) across the top, with a gold lions head in the center, as well as green scrolling leaves with white flowers. There is some damage to both sides of the header near the back where it is mounted at the wall, as seen in photo. Also one small piece at upper left on the header is missing as seen in photo. Measures 7\'3\" wide, 23\" high.
Oak header and casing, measures 47\" wide X 78-1/2\" high.
Columns are exceptional, each measures 5\' 6\" high, 9\" wide and 9-1/2\" deep with long carved stalks, showing green and gold leaves, white flowers, red and yellow apples down to the base. Front and outer side match in design flanking the door.
Capitols are mottled green with gold trim and are shown inverted in the photo. Each measure 13-1/4\"hi x 9-1/2deep. The pegs on the top of columns go into the holes and firmly hold both capitols in place. The top (widest part) of the capitols measure 18-1/2\" wide x 14\" deep.
On the reverse side of the oak door, an oval brass backplate, with brass knob. Some of the stops on the panels are missing where the stain is lighter. More near the bottom as well, as seen in all the photos.
With all said, this is the most ornate door and surround I have ever seen. Trying to find more information about it is difficult as I did not run across anything quite like this.
