Description A really wonderful very rare large heavy English antiqueVictorianExeter solid sterling silver \"one quart\" tankard by the silversmiths J Wippell & Co,in excellentcondition, and with full English silver hallmarks for Exeter1878.Outstanding tankard and superbquality, very scarce large size, actually bigger than a quart size, rarelyfound in sterling silver, measures over 7 inches in height and has a huge capacity, nearly 2 1/2 pints. Beautifully decorated with engraved flowers, foliage and butterfliesin the \"aesthetic\" taste, with a large silverscrolled handleand resting on a circular pedestal base with beaded edge.Large cartouche with later golfing presentation inscripton, could be polished out if wanted.

Weight Very heavyapprox505grams.Measurements Huge size, measures approx7.2 inches (182mm) in height, and is4.75 inches (120mm) in diameter across the middle, (excluding handle).Date AntiqueVictorian solid sterling silver with a full set of English silver hallmarks for EXETER 1878(date letter \"B\"), (assay officeclosed in 1882).Includes the3 turreted castle stamp of theExeter assay office, the lion passant sterling silver mark, and the sovereigns duty mark of Queen Victoria.Good clear hallmarks.MakerSilversmiths initials \"J.W & Co\", (J Wippell & Co, High Street, Exeter 1875-1881). Condition Excellent condition and ready to be used. No splits or cracks to the silver, no solder repairs and no nasty knocks ordentseither, justa small indentation on the bottom handle join, (see last photo for a close-up shot), would push out fine.The silver handle has no dents or bruises and is tight and secure. Beautiful \"elaborate\" aesthetic engraving, still sharp and well defined. Lovely clean interior, looks possibly partially gilded. Later golfing presentation inscription in the cartouche, could be polished out if wanted.Fabulousheavy weight and with a very large one quart +capacity.
