19th Century Figural Creamer
Outstanding ornate silverplated cream pitcher with bold figural handle and parcel gilt interior. This striking piece dates from the mid to late 1800’s and was made by the Middletown Plate Co. of Middletown, Connecticut. The creamer’s design features acanthus leaves and scrollwork and has a total of eight masks of helmeted faces. There is a heart shaped cartouche on either side, with a monogram “T” engraved on one side only. This pitcher stands 5 ¾” (14.5 cm) tall.
This great old creamer is in good condition, with no dents, breaks, or repairs. The silver plating has worn spots here and there. The wear is most evident on the handle and around the edges of the chased design and cartouche area on both sides (see detail photos). There are many small scratches and tiny gouges on the piece. The parcel gilt interior has worn some over the years and it is a paler gold near the top sections.
