Here for sale is a fine mid 19c Chinese carved cinnabar lacquer domed top box in a good large size of over 7\" in diameter along with a nicely carved hardwood stand. This box was produced in Canton, China during the \'Old China Trade\' era around c1850 or so destined for export to the West. This is a very well carved lacquer box in the sought after shape with rounded side walls and domed top executed in high relief depicting 3 figures amoungst mountains, rockery, plants and a large hanging pine tree to the top on a ground made of 3 different geometric patterns framed by a bold double line and a continuous key boarder with the sides of both top and bottom sections done in yet another geometric design. This is a true deep red color with excellent workmanship and details having both the interior and the underside painted in the glossy black lacquer. There is a old Chinese written label on the underside but is worn though some characters still legible. Condition is good with some expected wear having some tiny losses to the geometric design to the sides and a few small touch-ups but nothing at all serious and the insides also show more honest wear as these boxes made of paper mache are becoming scarce in good condition as the climatic changes and dampness really taketheirtoll on condition but this one has remained very nice and the stand is also in undamaged condition.
