19th Century Indian \'Kard\' knife
Overall length: 7.5in (190mm)Blade length: 4in (100mm)Reference: 10324
A charming and small Indian knife from the 19th Century, probably made for a lady, or court/formal attire.
The blade is forged from dark Wootz Damascus steel, in very good condition. The grips are mother of pearl, with a birds head pommel and green stone eyes. A nice pierced brass pommel tag, and gold koftgari along the tang, bolster, and heel of the blade. The floral decoration is typical of that found on Northern Indian objects of the period. Islamic calligraphy on both sides of the bolster in gold.
About UsAkaal Arms is a UK based company which was established in 2002 to bring antique Indian arms and armour to a worldwide audience. Rare and beautiful examples have been sourced from English Arms and Antique fairs, private collections and even Manor houses, for the client who is looking for that exceptional piece of history.
\"Spurred on by my interest in history and culture, I have travelled far and wide in search of elusive and rare Antique weaponry. Along the way I have gained knowledge and experience in the massive Indian arsenal, and a good knowledge and respect of weapons from India’s surrounding countries as well.I have been fortunate enough to help build world class private collections. I also offer advice, consultation and insurance valuations for my clients; some of whom, I have been serving for almost 10 years. Now, Akaal Arms is a world leader, not only supplying globally, but buying from collections all over the world. I particularly enjoy finding extraordinary objects for my customers to buy, invest and enjoy\".Runjeet SinghAftercareWe are lovers of Antique Arms and Armour too!
