FINE ANTIQUE 1858 ROYAL WORCESTER KERR & BINNS VASE 3 HORNS ON STAGS HEAD FEET :
$181.93

In 1852, two Irishmen, Richard H Binns (1890-1900) and William H Kerr (1823-1879) took over the management of Chamberlain & Co in Severn Street Worcester following a devastating fire. These two men were in situ until 1862 when Kerr returned to Ireland and Binns stayed on.

This beautiful and finely crafted vase was produced during this period and it has the red base stamp for Kerr and Binns and a date code for 1858. So, it is an extraordinary 159 years old and a rare piece for a collector of antique Worcester. This intricate bisque vase is formed of three trumpet or hunting horns on stags head feet. The three horns are separated by beautifully rendered human heads as masks with curling, flowing locks. The piece is finely gilded and the hair on the masks is touched with applied green/blue beads. The rims of the horns are decorated and gilded and the repeat pattern on these rims also includes single ‘beads’ in the same blue/green. The gilded wreaths gracing the upswept horns are dotted with minute red berries. Altogether a wonderful design! This vase measures 6¾” (about 17cms) between the noses of the deer (about 28” or 71cms as a circumference). The vase stands about 3” 7.5cms) tall. It weighs, before packing, 318gms.ConditionThis lovely antique Worcester piece is in excellent condition for its 159 years: there are no cracks, losses or chips. There are a few very tiny dark spots here and there in the bisque, but that would be normal. There is a small area of pale yellow staining on the left side of the face of one of the masks which may mean a restoration but, if it is, it has been singularly well done. (Please see the photographs). I have not been able to decide...! Postage

Postal charges are based on the weight of the vase fully packed. I always, as a matter of policy, use a ‘signed for’ and ‘tracked’ postal option and insure for the full value. These delicate pieces require good packaging and plenty of it. I pack most carefully in tough new packaging for which I make no charge. Please note that I have successfully sent fragile items all over the world for many years and I am proud of my record for excellent packing. I have also learned that with fragile items, it is safer and more prudent to pack in a comparatively large box. I aim to keep the postage as low as possible, commensurate with the demands of safety and security and I always return any postage inadvertently overcharged, as will be clear from my response. I am happy to accept Paypal and will accept personal cheques, but because of the expense, complexities and delays in the UK in the processing of foreign currency cheques I have reluctantly had to stipulate ‘Sterling only’ for these. Very sorry!
