Small, fine cabinet sized ginbari style vase signed Hattori Todasaburofrom the Meiji era of Japan. The vase is round form and is neckless with widemouth and broad shoulders tapering down to a narrower foot. The design is a classic one Hattori used for small vessels with a band of stylized blue outlined flowers against a band of white with a darker band of dark brown ginbari beneath it. The flowers are outlined in broad curved medium blue and the petals are light blue and light green with black and orange centers.Hattori was one of the very top Japanese enamelists and was under contract to the Imperial House. Gary Yoshino, in his bookJapanese Cloisonn é Enamels, page 176, describes Hattori as \"one of the most creative and innovative masters of the Golden period ofshippo yakiproduction...Quality and workmanship consistently high; highpremium on marked examples.\"
The vase is 3 1/2\" tall and is signed to the base with the \"lear mark\" of Hattori Todasaburo. Excellentcondition with a short craze line. Ask allquestions before offerding. LOW RESERVE! Stand not included.
