Capturing all of the grandeur of imperial India, where the great game of strategy was born, the pewter chessmen are fine portrait sculptures of real historical figures who participated in the Indian mutiny of 1857 = formative sowarts to Queen Victoria. All beautifully hand painted pewter on wood bases. The chess board has a distinctive mahogany finish. brass trim. two fitted drawers hold all 32 pieces. The richly sculptured cast marble playing surface bears a hand painted motif inspired by India\'s Taj Mahal. This set is rare, unusual and exciting.
Includes All 32 pieces, in excellent pre-ownedcondition.

A masterpiece in design and craftsmanship with quality that matches the fine detail and beauty. This set has long been discontinued and was only available by direct subscription from The Franklin Mint for a limited time in 1987. The Pawns are approx. 3 inches tall and the other pieces range from 2.5 to 3.75 inches tall. The set depicts the British vs. Indians in the Sepoy Indian Revolution of 1857. The mahogany wood chess board is 20\" square has a cast marble surface, APPROX 19\" X 19\" that replicas the intricate tile work in the Taj Mahal and two compartmented drawers (one on each end) for storage of the chess pieces.
