This piece depicts a street scene from the perspective of an apartment window high above the street. Figures can be seen walking the illuminated streets at night, while others are looking into shop windows as cars pass by on the street. Large apartment / shop buildings line the street, with a dark orange sky overhead giving it a dusk feeling. Overall this is an extremely well executed architectural scene by an accomplished listed artist . This painting consists of oil paint on a canvas board. It comes to you signed and dated by the artist, in a nice light wood frame ready for display. Painting is in good vintage condition as shown. Has a few minor areas of paint wear that can be seen in photos 8 and 10. Also has two small knicks to the paint lower right as shown in photo 9. The paint is extremely vibrant, and the scene is very well executed and a great example of a 1940\'s painting. Overall in good antique condition

Biography from the Archives of askART

Fred Rosebury,(July 10, 1901-February 20, 1999)born in London,emigrated to the United States with his family in 1910 and settled in New York City. After quitting high school, he traveled widely as a radio operator on tankers from 1920-27. He attended City College of New York, Columbia University and Cooper Union College, where he studied commercial art, a career he pursued from 1928-31.

He worked briefly as a radio engineer and did research for the next 10 years at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, where he started as apart-timevolunteer. He was married toPauline (Pleasure) Rosebury (1906-1993) in 1936, a poet and artist in her own right.

He joined the MIT. Radiation Laboratory in 1942 and invented several top-secret radar devices. While at the Vacuum Tube Lab at the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) from 1951-71, he published two manuals, several scientific papers and wrote andillustratedtheHandbook of Electron Tubes and Vacuum Techniques(Addison-Wesley, 1965), reprinted by the American Institute of Physics and Springer-Verlag .

In addition, he served as a coach and role model for a number of PhD candidates at MIT

Mr. Rosebury retired from MIT in 1971 and founded an engineering consulting firm, Intertech, Inc., working for a number of clients including NASA, for whom he designed aheated gloveto be worn by astronauts. He also wrote and illustratedSymbols,Myth, Magic, Fact, and Fancypublished in 1974.

Mr. Rosebury was a member of the Society of Wireless Pioneers, keeping his ham radio operator\'sregistrationcurrent and used his \"rig\" until shortly before his death.

Mr. Rosebury was above all an accomplished artist who worked in many media including watercolor, pen and ink, scratchboard and gouache, and produced many serigraphs (silkscreen prints).He was a pioneer in modernistscreenprinting, becoming an early devotee of the innovative technique developed in the 1940s.His artwork has been exhibited at the following venues:

He also made unusual jewelry.In his 70s and 80s he produced a group of more than 35 recoupages made from found objects. As he was redgreen,colorblind, his use of color, in particular, in his few naturalistic scenes is noteworthy.
