FRENCH 19TH CENTURY GILT BRONZE OF A GAME BIRD BY JULES MOIGNIEZ
This listing is for a 19th century bronze figure of a game bird. The pheasant measures 11 1/2 inches high and 10 inches wide (29.2 by 25.4 cm). The bird is shown in a very realistic and naturalistic setting in mid run with its wings spread.
The bronze is signed "J. MOIGNIEZ". This is for Jules Moigniez 1835-1894. He was the quintessential French animalier bronze sculpture of his time. He participated in the Great Exhibition of 1862 where he won a medal. Reference "THE DICTIONARY OF SCULPTORS IN BRONZE" by James Mackay page 266. The bronze has it's original chocolate brown patina or coloration.The pheasantisheld to the base withhand made studs and nuts.
