Description

This is one of the nicest vintage Catawba Valley 3 gallon storage jars I’ve seen in a while! I was told by a well renowned North Carolina potter that this particular Catawba Valley piece was done by Reinhardt. This was also confirmed at the most recent Catawba Valley Pottery Show in Hickory, NC this past April.Although this piece is not signed, I was told that it has all of the markings of Reinhardt’swork. This piece is from the period of 1910-1930. Catawba Valley Pottery describes alkaline glazed stoneware made in the Catawba River Valley of Western North Carolina. Catawba Valley Pottery of North Carolina is a community of folk-art potters who incorporate 19th century methods into making pottery. Although having their own shops and kilns separated by miles, they are connected through a dedication of preserving this time honored tradition. This magnificent piece measures 13 ¼” tall and is approximately 9” wide with a 6” opening at the top. It has 2 lug handles and a semi flattened rim. It has the great spit Tobacco glaze with the white flex that is common to Catawba Valley Pottery. Also common to Catawba Valley pottery is the prominent edge. That was designed so if used for pickling, one could band it with a cloth and it would not slide off. The condition is excellent with no issues. This jar would make a wonderful addition to your collection! I will have this storage jar professionally packed and shipped with insurance via UPS ground for safety.
