This is a very nice stoneware bowl believed to be an early unmarked piecefrom Red Wing. This bowl is a nice sturdy piece that is fairly heavy at 4 lbs and 4 oz. and that has a prominent and thick collar (about 1.75\" tall).The bowl measures 10 1/2\" in diameter (10\" inside parameter) and just under 5\" in height.
Theinside and outside is mainly salt glazed brown as evidenced by the slightly salt pockmarked surface. This is a nice age to the piece, with nice patina on the tan collar. This is a nice representation of more primitive early Americana stoneware, with the glaze showing variation in color and some lumps from the thickness of glaze application variation during manufacture. There are also some manufacturer lumps and impressions that give this a nice \"made\" feel.
