Part of a family collection of fine Chinese items we are selling is this spinach green soapstone vase, we have had this dated to the 17th/18th century. The extreme difficulty of carving soapstone to a very fine translucent stage such as thisis no longer done, the vases were made to replicate a fine Chinese jade, resulting in a very light vase, todays soapstone are heavy.
