A VERY ATTRACTIVE FINE JAPANESE ANTIQUE TSUBA, approx 300 years old, that would have fitted on a Japanese sword to protect the hand from SWORD CUTS. An iron tsuba of the CLASSIC CHRYSANTHEMUM multi petal DESIGN ( The Emperor of Japan historically has his own individual CHRYSANTHEMUM design ).......It measures 69mm at the widest point and is 3.5mm thick. You can see this type of tsuba on sale fetching high prices, and the classic design, the amount of careful cutting involved, and the simplicity of design captures the samurai spirit. It is very beautiful skilled work !!! A very nice original tsuba !!! Complete with a cloth storage pouch, as seen in the photo !
