A nice example of a mid-Victorian Gold & Enamel Memento Mourning Brooch, which contains a lock of hair under the original glazedpaneland probably dates to around 1850. As normal for brooches of this period this fine quality piece is unmarked but it is guaranteed to be Gold.
This fine brooch is beautifully decorated with a raised gold scrolled edge and a gold foliate scroll decoration set into black enamel. It measures approx\' 48mm long and approx\' 41mm high and weighs 17.6 grams.
Overall the condition of the brooch is superb for an antique piece; the enamel has retained it\'s lustre and the gold decoration is simply breathtaking. Of course, there is some wear to the surfaces commensurate with age but there is no loss of enamel (when viewed under a x9 loupe there are a couple of tiny surface chips, which are barely noticeable with the naked eye. The glazed panel has suffered some surface wear resulting in a loss of clarity and the brooch appears to have had areplacementpin fitted historically(please study the detailed close-upphotographs provided, which form an integral part of the item\'s description).
In summary, a rare and beautiful VictorianGold & Enamel Memento Mourning Brooch.
