Fine Beautifully Hand-Carved Shell Cameo Brooch; Thick Gold-Fill Rope Frame:

This is avintage,beautifully hand-carved shell cameo brooch, set in gold-fill. I believe it dates back to the 1940s or so. The cameo itself is channel-set high into an oval gold-filled bezel, which is then mounted onto a relatively heavy gold-fill rope frame. The brooch is not signed, but a very nice jeweler in my area tells me that it is definitely set in gold-fill. However, the underside of the shell does appear to have some writing on it. I\'m not sure if this is a bona-fide signature. You be the judge (refer to the last two photos included with this listing)

The brooch measures about 1⅛\" across by just over1⅜\" down. The carving on this is superb, full of detail and intricacy. Featured is the right-facing profile of a lovely young woman who is wearing two large petaled flowers on her right bodice and a matching, slightly reddish flower in her hair. The flowers are beautifully carved; appear to be poppies. Overall condition is EXCELLENT! You see NO damage to the shell or the metal. She is just beautiful.

NOTE:The photos with an orange background were taken outdoors in diffused sunlight. The photos with the lace background were taken indoors in natural indirect sunlight, as it comes through my second story office window.
