Up for offer is a nice George II sterling dipper or toddyladle, London, 1732-33 by Ralph Maidman. The ladle is about 13 1/2 inches long. The deep bowl is of heavy gauge sterling and measures 3 inches long by 21/4 inches wide. It has a 2 5/8\"conical socket attached to a triangular plate on the side of the bowl. The handle is of turned tropical hardwood, possibly rosewood. It is monogrammed\"LK\" in block capitals under the handle joint. The piece is marked in the bowl with a lionpassant, the oval [RM] maker\'s mark of Ralph Maidman, the R date letter for1732-33 and the leopard\'s head. Maidmanentered his mark in 1731 and was insolvent by 1737.

Condition on the ladle is fairly good. The joint between thesocket and the bowl is a little blobby on the top, and is likely an oldrepair. The seam in the socket has avery fine opening, and there is a tiny split at the top of the socket. The handle has curved from shrinkage overtime; it appears to be original. Aninteresting early English sterling ladle.
