DESCRIPTION
A wonderfully worked oil on canvas, dating to c.1880, depicting an English countryside landscape in autumn. The painting is executed with a combination of paint knife and brush, which especially stand out in its use to highlight the textures of the sky.The piece is signed on the lower left,which appears to read C. B. Nennir.
The canvas is a standard 24\" x 16\" size, unlined and in very good antique condition overall. A light degree of craquelure runs throughout most areas of the canvas, while there are a few light marks, similar to pencil marks, in the sky area and a few small areas of paint loss at the very bottom end of the canvas. The frame is thick and heavy, originating from a similar period as the painting. It is in a good to very good antique condition, with losses to some of its bead decorations, an area of restoration to its decorative detail near the upper right corner, as well as minor chips to corners and borders.
