A fine French violin estimated to have been made circa 1860 in Mirecourt, France, it is in remarkable condition. As is common with French instruments from this period, it has a particularly bold upper register and has an even tone over all of the strings. It has a figurative two piece maple back, strongly flamed sides, and a fine-medium grained spruce top. As mentioned above, there is a repair label from 1919. It is not known what the extent of the repairs were, however the violin retains a bridge by the same repairer. It is likely that the bridge was made at the time of the repair. The bridge is still in fairly good condition and is a collectors item itself. The history and whereabouts of this violin are not known, though it does not appear to have been played much over the last hundred years, making an exceptional state of preservation. The violin comes with a hard shell case that will be sufficient for shipping purposes. I seldom have instruments for sale, but when I do they are generally quite sought after, so offer with confidence and don\'t miss your chance to own this wonderful piece of history.Please enjoy an excerpt of the Meditation from Thais played on this very this violin is in excellent condition and is setup and ready to play. The top has a small repaired crack just above the treble f hole, as well as one adjacent to the neck. The back, ribs, neck, and scroll are all in excellent condition. There are no soundpost or bass bar cracks. I will include a small chin rest with the violin, though it is currently not mounted to the instrument.Measurements

The instrument will be carefully packed in a hard shell case and inside a box with ample protection.
I can ship the instrument fully set up, or if the winning buyer so desires I can take the bridge and sound post down.
