Fine Scarce Original French Bronze Saint Helena Medal (1857) w/ Ribbon~ No Rsve:
$38.00

Offered here is an original, heavy cast bronze St. Helena medal on its original ribbon. This was the first French campaign medal issued. It was instituted in 1857 by Emperor Napoleon III to commemorate the campaigns of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Some four hundred thousand were struck and issued to those who had served under Napoleon I.The designer was Albert Désiré Barre, and his mark, an anchor, appears under the bust of Napoleon on the obverse. The medal measures about 2\" excluding the suspension ring. It still retains the cross atop the crown (often missing). Showing only minor wear and no damage to the medal. some spots of verdigris, but it has never been cleaned. Ribbon shows some minor tattering and soiling. Nice example. Scarce to find in the market today. It is offered with no hidden reserve and a low starting offer. Three-day inspection/ return on all items I offer, if not as described. Buyer to pay priority post and ins. (7.00) Thanks
