Fine Vintage Case XX SC684-8\" Carving Knife The Early Americans Series 9-Dot:

Offered for your consideration is a fine vintage Case XX SC684-8\" carving knife. This knife is from W.R. Case & Sons \"The Early Americans\" series. The knives in this series were made in several variations over the years. Some used Case\'s dot dating system, some had the Case XX logo embossed on the handles, etc. These knives are commonly found with heavy dishwasher damage to the Walnut handle. The harsh detergents and high temperatures strip the wood of its natural oils which result in bleaching, fade, warping, grain separation, and/or just an overall tired, washed-out appearance. This is a 9-dot example and the handle on this piece remains especially nice. The 684-8\" is a bit tougher to find than the more common 683-8\".The knife has seen light only use and remains in excellent condition with no problems. It has not been cleaned or buffed and remains original. The knife has been very well cared for over the years and shows no signs of abuse or rough treatment. It comes in its original blade sleeve as shown. The sturdy blade shows no obvious signs of sharpening and it\'s free of any grinder marks or sharpening abrasions. It appears to have been only very lightly honed, seeing maybe a few strokes on a sharpener. The etched blade markings remain fully visible and bold with great contrast against the bright satin finish. The blade has a slow taper and offers no flexibility at all. The edge is free of any nicks, chips, dings, or damage and remains very nice with just a bit of normal light wear. It remains fairly sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use, although a quick touch-up would help to deliver top performance. The solid American Walnut handle is especially nice. It was tightly pinned and shows none of the dishwasher bleaching, fade, and gapping that\'s so common to these knives with no signs of sink washing water exposure either. The wood is free of any warping and it has a warm, rich, silky-smooth feel in the hand. The handle is free of any cracks, chips, gouges, or damage and shows no stains or discoloration. The wood is beautifully grained and it\'s one of the nicest handles I\'ve seen on one of these knives. The knife measures just over 13\" in overall length. This would be a great piece for the Case collector and/or someone with an old 9-dot set. Of course, it would also be great as a stand-alone knife for anyone who appreciates fine, American-made cutlery.A very nice, original example of this classic Case XX carving
