This is a wonderful group of 5 Ming Dynasty Chinese Burial Figures - Musicians. They are low fired pottery with sancai glaze.
Tallest is just under 14 inches tall; smallest 12 3/4 inches tall. Heads are removable and may be somewhat of a mix and match situation from the time they were excavated. The clay color of some of the heads is different than that of the figure bodies. They may not be original to the figure, but are authentic age wise. This marriage can be taken as negative on one hand, but positive with respect to age authentication. (Fakes would generally be of the same clay base throughout.) I purchased these figures from New Zealand dealer and expert Anthony Allen in September, 2001. You can see similar figures in his book ALLEN\'S AUTHENTICATION OF ANCIENT CHINESE CERAMICS pages 269 through 276 published years after my purchase. Lots of invaluable practical advise. These figures have been in my collection since that time.Condition: Expected wear - especially to painted surfaces - one would expect from hundreds of years of burial. There are a few minor chips and cracks to the bodies, especially to the bases and at the neck. The pointed end of one of the heads has been repaired. The hands of two of the figures appear to have repairs. I am sure that there are other repairs. See the photos. They are an important part of the description.Return policy: I must be contacted within 14 days of receipt and informed that a return is intended - no questions asked. After 14 days returns will only be accepted due to lack of authenticity with respect to age or period. Authenticity with respect to age can be settled by a thermoluminescence TL test by Oxford Authentication Ltd only if they do the sampling and at buyer\'s expense.
