The smaller hatpin is in excellent condition.I assume the bead is glass and not jade;it has the grey- green appearance of a cloudy marble.The tips of the stems are not sharp.
The bead is ½” in diameter and the steel stems are 4 5/8” long.
The larger is a bright green jade color and is also in excellent condition.
The bead is ¾” in diameter with 5 ¼” brass stems.
An Antique Hatpin with a Huge Pearl Set among Brass Petals
The pearl is bright and shiny;it does have one mark, shown in a close up photo.I’m not promising that the pearl is real, but all things are possible!The brass of the petals is thin and the tips sharp.
The stem has a nib which easily screws onto the pin.
It is in excellent conditionbut for very minor oxidation on the back of the petals,as shown in the close ups.
The pearl is 7/8” in diameter and the stem is 3” long.
A Pair of Plastic Antique Hatpins with Rhinestones
These hatpins are in excellent condition.The plastic is a pale yellow.
The head is 7/8” by 5/8” with a 5 ½” stem.These next weeks I will be posting several hundred hatpins from my mother’s collection.A note with her collection says the collection began with those left for her by her great aunts,then others given by her mother and her friends;when she was in college in Philadelphia she bought many on Walnut Street,and some in New York City.Almost all were collected by the time she was married in 1943.It was the perfect time to begin a collection, as hatpins were soon out of fashion.
