Two rectangular planks together by metal hinge fittings that make an outstanding feature inlaid decoration in geometric patterns made of small bone fragments combined with dark wood around the edges. Embedding this type of block, made of bone and with this kind of designs Islamic tradition was widely used in the sixteenth century Spanish furniture. Called \"marquetry Granada\", on the grounds feature workshops this Andalusian region, where it was used since the fourteenth century. After the Christian conquest of the Kingdom of Granada (1492) these production facilities continued their activity, Moorish artisans hand now until at least the eighteenth century, and applied on desks, chests, chairs, boards, etc. In this example, despite maintaining this Muslim tradition, a clear evolution of geometric shapes and compositions to more features Renaissance is appreciated, as is the date of its creation. Typologically, the work is related tables slip sheets that appeared in the XVI century, probably in the Netherlands. In this type of furniture it was made, matching a frame to hold the planks, which was not attached to them. Its use quickly spread throughout Europe and was so popular that it has survived to this day.
The hinges allow the two boards folded for transporting or storing the table. Its shape is related to heirs Gothic designs, and their presence was usual in this type of furniture often stood on stands only when they were to be employed. This is the reason why the back of the boards, walnut in color, have a rectangular trademarks along the through nails securing fittings.
The walnut was the most used in the Spanish cabinet, by its color, its wealth and strength. The technical quality of marquetry demonstrates a very specialized work, which makes it a typical furniture of a significant residence time. We have not reached many examples, not with the quality of decor that has this. Similar examples are preserved in private collections and institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Granada Charterhouse, etc.

Dos tablones rectangulares unidos por herrajes metálicos que hacen de bisagra presentan una destacada decoración de taracea en motivos geométricos, realizada a base de pequeños fragmentos de hueso combinados con madera oscura en los bordes.
Este tipo de incrustación en bloque, realizado con hueso y con este tipo de diseños de tradición islámica fue muy empleado en el mobiliario español del siglo XVI. Recibe el nombre de “taracea granadina”, por considerarse característica de los talleres de esa región andaluza, en la que se empleaba desde el siglo XIV. Tras la conquista cristiana del Reino de Granada (1492) estos centros de producción continuaron con su actividad, de mano ahora de artesanos mudéjares, hasta al menos el siglo XVIII, y se aplicaba sobre escritorios, arquetas, sillas, tablones, etc. En el presente ejemplo, pese a mantener esta tradición musulmana, se aprecia una clara evolución de los motivos geométricos hacia formas y composiciones más características del Renacimiento, como corresponde a la fecha de su creación.
Tipológicamente, la obra está relacionada con las mesas de hojas deslizantes que aparecieron en el siglo XVI, probablemente, en los Países Bajos. En este tipo de muebles se realizaba, a juego, un armazón para sostener los tablones, el cual no iba unido a ellos. Su uso se extendió rápidamente por toda Europa, y fue tan popular que ha llegado hasta nuestros días. Las bisagras permiten doblar los dos tablones para transportar o guardar la mesa. Su forma está relacionada con diseños herederos del Gótico, y su presencia era habitual en este tipo de muebles que, a menudo, se colocaban sobre borriquetas solamente cuando fueran a ser empleados. Este es el motivo por el cual la parte trasera de los tablones, de madera de nogal en su color, presentan unas marcas rectangulares, además de los clavos pasantes que fijan los herrajes.
La madera de nogal fue la más empleada en el mueble español, por su color, su abundancia y su resistencia. La calidad técnica de la marquetería evidencia una mano de obra muy especializada, lo que lo convierte en un mueble característico de una residencia importante de la época. No nos han llegado ejemplos abundantes, y menos con la calidad en la decoración que tiene la presente. Se conservan ejemplos similares en colecciones privadas e instituciones como el Victoria & Albert Museum de Londres, la Cartuja de Granada, etc.
