This image is alternately known as \"The London and York Royal Mail Coach.\"It is found in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. Thomas Stevens (1828-1888) invented the process of machine embroidery with silk threads on silk.The Good Old Days dates to ca.1879.Wonderful details on the carriage and horses.The silk threads retain their sheen and vivid colors.It is in original mat which has a bit of discoloration at the bottom but is otherwise good.It is inscribed: Woven in silk by Thomas Stevens, inventor and manufacturer, Coventry and London.There is a bit of foxing on the white at the far left side of the picture.The silk image is approx. 2 by 6 inches.The gold leaf frame is in good condition and measures 6 1/4 by 9 inches.Overall, a very nice example of the art of Stevensgraph.
