Acoma Storyteller by Frances Torivio with obvious damage to one of her feet, purchased from an estate like this, evidently someone loved her a lot to attempt a repair, easily enough to finish if you are artistic. Probably worthy of restoration by a professional?

Here is a great little storyteller by Acoma matriarch Frances Torivio, Acoma. Depicts mother with six children in striking, classic orange and black on white. Measures 4 1/2\" high. Great addition to any Acoma or storyteller collection.

Frances Pino Torivio was born in 1905 and died in 2001. She was the daughter of Teofila Torivio, sister of Lolita Concho, mother of Maria Lilly Salvador, Wanda Aragon and Ruth Paisano.

She is one of the important matriarchs of Acoma Pueblo pottery. She started shaping figurines in the 1940s and was, very probably, the first Acoma potter to make storytellers in the late 1960s. She led an effort to revive traditional Acoma pottery by teaching classes at the pueblo in the 1970s. Her pottery is prized around the world.

She won awards at the Indian Market in these years: 1976, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1992, and 1994.
