My Great Uncle John Bartow received this print in 1932 when he worked as a Lobbyist in Washington D.C. during the FDR Administration. It was also during this time that Uncle John was an examiner for the Disaster Loan Corporation, a subsidiary of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation.
After a large disaster, Uncle John worked as a Field Examiner for the corporation and would visit the scene of the disaster and accept loan applications from persons whose businesses and homes were damaged and unable to finance rehabilitation privately. Uncle John would applications from disaster victims and decide if they were approved of not approved for a loan.
Prior to working as a Lobbyist in the FDR Administration he had a long record as Democratic stalwart back in South Dakota. He was the party\'s chairman in Aurora County for eight years. He had long service on the state central committee. He was a delegate to the National Conventions at New York in 1924 and Chicago in 1932 and an alternate to the conventions at Houston in 1928 and Philadelphia in 1936.
As a committeeman in the South Dakota Democratic Club Uncle John was a leader in getting out the mail votes of the 380 South Dakotans who lived in Washington.
