FrenchArt Deco Brass Swivel Clock on Marble Base by DEP – 1931

A beautiful, very stylized square brass framed clockset a square green marble base with brass columns allowing it to be swiveled.

It wasmade by ‘DEP’ – a well-known French clockmaker in the Haute-Savoie region whoexcelled in art deco styled clocks between the two world wars.

The numbers’ font on the face of the clock is squarish,very characteristic DEP styling with a pear-shaped hours’ hand.

This modeldates from 1931. All of the knobs, hardware and winders are present andoriginal.

Note: This clock, like all DEP clocks are basically handmade. One of the side holes that allows it to pivot is 1 millimeter lower than the other. To compensate, a clockmaker inserted a tiny old paper washer on the base of one of the side holders.

The clock and alarm work well and it keeps timecorrectly. The alarm turnoff button is located on the top, between the decorativehandle.

The clock mechanism case measures 2 inches by 2inches and 1 3/8 inches deep.

The green marble base measures 3 ¼ inchessquare and 7/8 inches thick. It is in very good condition with a few tinynibbles around the edges, hardly visible and a very small chip on a top corner. Very solid, it weighs 1.3lbs.

It is an elegant, very Art Deco clock thatwould look handsome on a desk or on a night table and 1930’s DEP clocks areincreasingly difficult to find in very good condition as they have become verycollectable.

This is due to unscrupulous buyers who purchase a clock, remove one ormore parts probably to fix another clock and then try to return it as‘defective’ or not working.

If there is a problem,please send me an email within 7 days of receipt of the item, explaining thesituation and I will reply as quickly as possible. If a return is accepted, theitem must be sent back in the same condition and in the same packaging. Thebuyer pays for the return postage costs.

A refund will notprocessed until the returned item has been examined by a clockmaker.
