Friedman Brothers Colonial Williamsburg Queen Anne English Japanned Looking Glass.
CW-LG4
#5463
Friedman Brothers New York.
Original more accurate version.
18\" wide x 43\" high.
Impressed/burned into back of wood frame 4XX Restoration.
Reproduced from an English antique c.1715 in the
Colonial Williamsburg collection which hung in the Daphne Room of the Raleigh Tavern.
This long mirror with gilded birds, plant life and Chinese figures on Black lacquered frame(Japanning)and made with two plates of over lapped flat glass on two different levels like the original.
These earlier ones were more accurate in reproducing the top/head shape of the
c.1715 original and two level plate glass.
The understated elegance of the overlapped flat glass on two different planes and more
historically accurate top, really was a more time consuming but worthwhile detail.
These days on the more recent version they have compromised that important detail.
Introduced by Friedman Bros. in 1938.The original hangs in the West Advance building of the Governors Palace.
Cheers : )
