I have made thisjewellery using tubular faience beads. Faience is coloured earthenware. Strong thread was coated with a paste and then without cutting through the thread the paste was chopped into beads. In the kiln the thread burned away leaving a hole in each bead ready for threading. The beads were first of all baked in a kiln and then coated with a glaze.

The beads date from the New Kingdom, the time of the greatest pharaohs Ramesses and Tutankhamun.

This makes them over 3000 years old.
