Title : GEORGIAN English STERLING Silver Cruet STAND Rosewood Heraldic Boat Shape 1795

Description : A beautiful Georgian English solid sterling silver cruet stand; of a oval shape with a boat shaped rim, the sides are reticulated with a hand done punchwork design with bright cut highlights, set on four slightly curved feet; the base inset with a rosewood panel which is original to the piece; engraved at each end with an heraldic symbol of a tree stump and branches - which represents new life sprouting from the old but we are not certain what family or organisation might have used this symbol, A collection of cruet bottle would be placed in the stand; today this could be used on a vanity with perfume bottle or also in an entrance hall as a really fancy place to leave your keys!

Quantity : 1 sterling and rosewood cruet stand

Maker : manufactured in England and bearing English hallmarks of a lion passant, leopard\'s head crowned for London, date cypher letter u and the King\'s head; punched in the opposite direction is the makers mark JS which is a bit worn but can be made out and appears to be that of Joseph Scammell of London.

Age : date cypher for the year 1795

Size : measures 7 inches long by 5 inches wide, and nearly 3 1/2 inches high at the ends; total weigh 226 grams

Condition : In wonderful condition with no dents or noted damage to the silver, some very minor bends but nothing unsightly, silver is bright and shiny, the rosewood inset base is also in great condition with a nice colour, minor edge marks expected given the age of the piece but solidly in place and does not move.
