gibson j45 flat top.  no serial number inside. there are 3 digits next to one of the machine heads on the back of the headstock, but i dont think these are gibson.  gibson script logo and small bridge places it about 1946.  i have seen pics of the 1948 models with the block logo, but i am sure that 1946 would all be script logos.  this guitar is an incredible find.  i purchased it from the estate of the original owner.....this is a ONE OWNER guitar!!  the finish on it is VERY nice. i am going to leave it alone...not even buff it out with rubbing compound. it will polish up to be very nice.  i have never seen a gibson flat top this old that has this nice a finish on the neck. no capo marks or even any lacquer checks.  the entire finish is original. some wear marks for sure and light checking on the top, but i just dont see them any better.  the original gears are on it with the customary crumbling of the buttons.  these are easily replaced by just heating the shaft and pressing on new buttons.  i have decided to not do ANYTHING to the originality of the guitar. it might devalue the instrument value to a collector or any other purchaser.  you can decide what you want to do in regards to any work done on it. it has the original frets and they are in very nice shape...no divots in them at all. the original nut and bridge saddle also.  there are no open cracks in the guitar.  i really do believe that you could remove the original saddle and save it and install a new saddle and adjust the height of it....rebutton the tuners and string it up and play it!!  i see no need of a neck repitch.  you and your luthier will have to decide what you want to do. the original bridge pins and strap button have crumbled away. i had an old gibson strap pin i put in just so it would have one. i have repaired instruments for almost 40 years now and i know what i am talking about on this one.  these old gibson flat tops have appreciated in value to the point where i feel like it would be better to sell the guitar in the original AS FOUND condition than to change anything on it pre selling it.  that way, the new owner will know EXACTLY what he is getting and can chose what work he wants done to suit his or her style of playing.  if you are looking for a fabulous addition to a collection then this is it.  i did string up a low E string on it just to hear what the guitar would sound like and i was amazed at the clarity, richness and volume of the guitar.  this is one worth having for sure!!    you send me any comments or questions you have about the instrument and i will answer them. i wish i could give out my phone number to talk to any one interested, but does not allow that in ads. again...just send me a message and we can talk about anything concerning more in depth specifics.  i will provide my phone number and references to the buyer if you would like to check anything out.  you can look at my history here on also.  this is one of the nicest vintage guitars i have ever run across. my reason for selling...i am 65 years old...i dont need to be collecting any more guitars!! i really need at this point to thin things out a lot.   the guitar comes with a non original hardshell case by ibanez.  looks like an 80s vintage one. black covering and gold inside.  just good condition but does the job.  i will pack this guitar up extremely well. buyer pays shipping.  only selling to USA buyers in the lower 48.  many thanks for your interest!
