106 YEARS OLD!!! Offered here is an ORIGINAL and RARE 1916 FIRST EDITION of GOLF:The Book of a Thousand Chuckles -The Famous Golf Cartoons by BRIGGS published by P.F. Volland, Chicago. The book measures 9.25\" x 12.75\". Complete, with general wear, but nice bright color and EXCELLENT interior condition throughout. The covers have sustained the most damage (rubbing, marks, sun shadow on back cover), but there is truly NO MAJOR damage anywhere. Binding is in great shape! All-in-all, a complete and vibrant copy of this rare find. Please see photos to best assess condition.

Clare Briggs began his career by submitting cartoons intermittently to a number of Midwestern newspapers, until mogul William Randolph Hearst, recognizing Briggs’ talent, hired him as regular cartoonist for his two Chicago dailies, the Chicago American and Chicago Examiner. His sporting characters were very popular, appearing on weekdays in the sports section. Some historians of comics point to Briggs as creator of the first daily comic strip. He eventually took a post with the New York Herald-Tribune, where this collection of nearly 200 golf cartoons was for the most part produced. By 1920 Briggs was listed in the Literary Digest as one of the highest paid cartoonists in the nation.
