This is a gorgeous 1920s/30s antique French advertising sign from a couturier dress maker or tailors shop.
I have left it just as I found it and it is a genuine period display.
It is a superb silvered and gilded foil behind glass that creates a glittering refelction that catches the light beautifully.
It reads:
SPECIALITEDEROBES DE BALET DESOIREE
This shop specialised in evening gown and ball gowns.
The frame is timeworn ebonised wood with a distressed finish but all good and strong.
At the base of the sign is small lettering it reads:
MARCEL ORANGERCONCESSIONAIRE EXCLUSIFP LES TEINTURES DE FRANCE
and
PUBLICITE LUICOLOURBte SGDG PARIS.
The backing is all original and there is a hanging ring for use.
A genuine period confection for any vieille maison.
