Up forsale, this antique, extremelyrare Canadian/Native American WOODEN OVAL BOX.

In the U.S. some people call similar models\"pantry box\" but this one is 100% Canadian andoriginal. It was found in the attic of a 19th century chicken coop, in a rural road nearMontmagny, Quebec. In the late 19th century some Indians were still living in the back country, interacting with locals. They were making their things but some examples were found made by local French Canadians, who used the nearby Indianinfluence indifferent usual crafts and designs. There was about 1/4 inch thick ofdirt & dust on it when it was found, it was probably sitting there for the last 50-60 years in the dark. I did not even know there was those hiden gorgeous red aboriginal graphics when purchased from the picker!Only thing I did is a cleaning to remove all the dirt.No finish or anything has been applied.

It measures about 15½\" long by 10\" wide by 6 5/8\" tall. Without the cover on, it is 14½\" x 9\" x 6\" tall. Very dry: weighs 769 grams (1.7 lbs)

Condition is excellent for the age. Has the usual edge wear & surface scracthes, either left by knife marks under the lid, or probably surface drawings by children. The box is complete with its old lid. You can see the wood is all hand planed or carved, even the bending. Might be a mix of cedar and birch.

You cansee some old \"repairs\" with nails made over the years (part of its history). My guess: the bottom & cover were problably bothfixed by spruce roots or lace since day one, then the tiny rootsbroke off after years of use. They simply found nails & used them for a fix.You can see remainsof roots on the side \"junction\", visible inside & out.

The original red painted drawings are outsanding and primitive. They look like caveman drawings! They depict various hunting scenes, vegetation, bird, animalsm deers, etc. Some are more faded than others, but it is a luck we can still see them mostly unaltered & 100% authentic.

Don\'t miss this museum piece.I only got one in 25 years of business. Thank you for your interest.
